The Magisterium of the Bare Isle

The Magisterium of the Bare Isle was a group of select wizards who ruled over the isle in ancient times. Many think that the Isle was lush and verdant back then, with sprawling jungles and plains. The MAgisteriu, ruled well for many centuries, but after this golden age, many in the Magisterium grew greedy. They saw the lands of Avaron, then plot between infighting tribes and petty warlords, and saw an opportunity to expand their rule. They seized this, and the people of the Bare Isle went to war. It is unknown exactly how much they conquered, but at some point they seem to have controlled nearly all of Avaron. They also unlocked some fantastical technology, some of which, when unearthed, triggered the Revolution of Steam. Little is known from this point, but at some point, it is said, the rise of technology triggered...something, leaving the Bare Isle devastated to this day. While likely a myth, it remains a cautionary tale.
