The Island of Camvonia has long been a crossroads between the two great continents of Avaron and Vondexa. Following the Great Cataclysm of ca. 12,000 years before the Imperium, Camvonia began to grow into its modern role. In the millennia following the Cataclysm, it became the seat of a series of trade states, some of which grew into empires. It was a prosperous time for the little island, and they profited greatly. Little else is known from this age as of yet. After many thousands of years of this, Camvonia was unified under a state that would soon become the Imperium. Making Camvonia its capital region, it proceeded to conquer the world. Camvonia during this time was a paradise, a center of economic, cultural and administrative influence for all of Noliterre. Its citizens grew fabulously wealthy, and became the elite of the Imperium. The island was devastated when it fell, and became a broiling mix of ethnic groups in the upheavals and migrations following. But by 145, Camvonia had aqquired all of its present-day ethnic groups, and things began to settle down. In the dark ages of the following centuries, Camvonia became a prime target for raiders from the north. It took a long time for powerful states to form to stop these damaging incursions, but by 650 the island had returned to some semblance of civilization and beat off the raiders. These states tended to turn inward, and Camvonia soon became of little interest to the world as its residents squabbled among themselves. This changed in 989, when a warlord from the north united the island and formed the Camvonian Empire, ending the island's early history.
