The Prodanites do not consider themselves very different than humans, but over millennia they have adapted somewhat to suit their environment. Prodanites feel a strong connection with the sea, and tend to be excellent swimmers. Furthermore, the sea usually provides an abundance of nutrition, allowing them to grow slightly taller than normal humans. Males tend to grow to around 6' 1" and females 5' 11". The climate of Prodani is temperate but very sunny and the average Prodanite usually sports a deep tan. This tends to be more an acquired feature than any genetic predispositions, but it has been recorded that Prodanites tend to suffer less from "sun sickness", the mysterious disease that ravages the bodies of the elderly and leaves them with strange growths. Some theorize that this has something to do with adaptations in their skin. There is no real pattern of physical features, but the stereotypical Prodanite male has blond hair, brown eyes and high cheekbones and the stereotypical female had black hair, green eyes and rounded features. The reason for this divergence is unknown.
Prodanites, by nature of their culture, prize personal space and tend to keep animals and the deceased away from them. This keeps them generally healthier than usual, but there is still an abnormally high infant mortality rate. However, the balance that out, Prodanites tend to have enormous broods. The average time for pregnancy is 8 months instead of 9 and the typical Prodanite woman gives birth to 15 or 20 children in her lifetime, with maybe 5 making it to adulthood.
Mentally, Prodanites show little devotion from the norm. They tend to be very adept at problem-solving, and some Prodanite thinkers have made significant contributions to the arts and sciences. Intelligence is prized and there are standardized tests that are given to most of the population on a yearly basis. The most exceptional students are elevated to the upper class. Over centuries, this kind of selection has produced an unusually intelligent aristocracy, which is a good thing for the stability of the country but a bad thing for any uppity peasants. The overall IQ average is around 115, with the aristocracy hovering around 130.
Prodanites are generally peaceful but can be fiercely territorial; there are many anecdotes of murders over the placement of a fence and the like. They tend to value their personal freedom and property, but they will accept more or less any native ruling class that doesn't tamp down on their ability to rise through the ranks (hence the tests).
