The Empire of Camvonia has changed since the Fourth Age.
At the end of that Age, the Empire seemed unstoppable. Its Axial Alliance and its position at the head of the pro-tech sphere left it in a prime position to take advantage of the collapse of the pro-magic faction. For a brief time, with all its rivals in disarray, Camvonia enjoyed total supremacy over Noliterre. But empires, as the saying goes, change like the seasons, and soon the time came for Camvonia to pass the mantle. As the Taranta took over the Bolkov, they created a powerful, militaristic theocracy that forced the Camvonians from the region. In northern Orctova, the Camvonians were never able to gain more than a shaky foothold and they lost even that when orc armies come out of the burning wastelands in the east, carrying the banner of a man who claimed to be the dark Lord come again. finally, the growing power of its former ally of Hyren forced it to share the pole position within its own alliance. This was composed by the strategy of the Rowankin Dynasty, who had ruled Camvonia since 1051. Their entire plan was to build up naval power and rule Noliterre from the sea as opposed to the land. But shipbuilding takes time and the people were impatient. They saw the decay of Camvonian influence abroad and blamed what they thought was a complacent and weak dynasty. Matters came to a head in 2806 when an imperial general, Josepheus Martis, rebelled and marched on the capital. When he arrived, the people rose with him, and even the Imperial fleet was not enough to save the Rowankin. After a week's bitter street fighting within Elunia, the Rowankin Palace was breached and all 24 living members of the dynasty, ranging from the 8-month old crown prince to the 91-year old Dowager Queen, were brutally butchered. After restoring order in the city, Josepheus placed the crown on his head and proclaimed himself Emperor Josepheus the First of Camvonia, the founder of the Josephkin Dynasty. It took less than a week to subdue all remaining loyalist garrisons. A populace to the core, Josepheus proclaimed himself the strongman needed to restore the former glory of Camvonia. Seeking a scapegoat for all the problems that had wracked the empire, he chose followers of the Mountains of Five. These people were vrutally persecuted, even lynched. This led to a very brief war with the Blackhammer Empire, where the new Camvonian Navy proved its worth by annihilating its enemies in a series of naval battles off the coast of the Resni. Despite having done next to nothing, Josepheus claimed the victory as a sign of his power, and rapidly militarized the empire. In addition, he vassalized all remaining members of the Axial Alliance and entered a Pact of Iron with Hyren, pledging to be brothers till the end of time. Joseph's dies in 2822, leaving the throne to his son. What he will do with the unspeakably powerful weapon his father forged remains to be seen...
