The Battle of Long was a long (no pun intended) and brutal battle that lasted for many hours. The battle started when the Blackhammer Volunteer Army stationed in Soini launched a full scale attack on the rebel forces held in Long. First, a small Legion of about 4,000 Dwarves snuck past the outer defenses and managed to position themselves behind the enemy. There they were to wait until the time was right. The rest of the Blackhammer Volunteer Army moved in for the kill. Artillery opened fire, unleashing hell on the rebels, and the infantry charged into battle. At first, the battle was going in the Blackhammer Volunteer's favor, as the initial attack was a success and somehow managed to catch the enemy napping, but then the rebels regrouped and launched a counter attack. It was only a couple of hours into the battle and approximately 13,000 soldiers died, both rebel and Blackhammer.
Realizing that they were losing ground, General Kalgor Grimash of the Blackhammer Volunteer Army, signaled the Legion positioned behind the enemy lines to spring the trap. Catching the enemy completely by surprise, the 4,000 strong Legion smashed in behind the rebel lines and shattered the entire left flank. This caused a massive shift in the balance of power, now back in favor of the Blackhammer Volunteer Army. As the left flank crumbled, some of the rebels started to flee from the battlefield. This caused a massive route of rebel forces. In the end, there were still a few rebel positions fighting till the last man, but it was safe to say that the battle was won. About one hour later, the last of the rebel forces were destroyed. The Blackhammer Volunteer Army had won, but at a cost.
About 15,000 Blackhamer Volunteers died in battle that day. That meant that about 15,000 of Partry's children were gone, forever. Plans to erect a memorial at the site of the battle are already underway, but they need permission from the Hogni Empire. This battle signaled the end of the war against the trade-state of Hogni.
