“Anyone who on October 7, shopped at Miller General Store, report to Mr. Engel in the Principal’s office immediately.”
If you were to hear this over the speakers after school on the 8th of October, you wouldn’t take the time to think anything of it, would you? But let’s say you would. Could you figure out what that announcement was all about? There is a most likely answer, and it can be solved, using safe assumptions and deductions.
HINTS BELOW:
1) !FOR THIS PROBLEM, ASSUME OUR SCHOOL HAS UNIFORMS!
2) Miller General Store is run by an elderly couple. (This one is not at all as important as you may think, don't pay it too much mind.)
3) Mr. Engel is the principal. The secretary is the one who was heard over the speaker, as usual.
4) The dates are important, but the days are not special, and we are to assume they are both weekdays. ____________________________
I, Martian, will answer any "yes" or "no" questions you have, in order to help you along.

Will this riddle work with other dates? Or will it only work with October 7 and 8 exactly?

Yes, the uniforms are important.
Yes, other dates would work, but they need to be simultaneous.

How about the names of the store and the principal? Can it still work with other names?
Also, is word play involved?

Principal doesn't run the store; he's the principal.
I don't think wordplay is involved, just reading between the lines.

Good question, Reya. You're on the right track.
That being said, No.
